Outsourcing Strategies

Mobile OutsourcingYou know your small business needs a mobile website, but you don’t have the technical knowledge to try mobile website development on your own and you can’t afford to hire a pro for your mobile website design. What’s a small business owner to do?

One of the most cost effective ways to get the services you need at a cost you can afford is to outsource mobile website design. Creating a mobile website can be as complex as you want to make it, based on your type of business and what you want to offer to your customers in terms of features and navigation.

Looking for a mobile website designer can be unsettling – you may not be sure who to trust, where to look, how to evaluate a mobile website developer, how much to pay and a hundred other concerns. You can try running ads or posting on local websites, but it may be easier to look to a source where you can access hundreds of candidates from across the country and around the world rather than just local professionals.

Websites such as Odesk or Elance allow you to post your job for low or no fee and have professionals bid to be selected for your mobile website design project. One thing to bear in mind before posting to outsource mobile website design one of these sites is that you need to know what you want.

In order to hire a mobile website designer, you at least need to be able to lay out the scope of your project and have some goals and standards in mind. A good way to get started is to look at mobile websites for companies like yours. Look at both local companies and companies from other areas and find features you like that you want your mobile website developer to use for your site.

When creating a mobile website, you need a vision. Mobile website will be more affordable if you have clear ideas and preferences from the start. The unsure you are about what you want for your mobile website design, the more trial and error will be involved, driving costs and frustration up for both you and your mobile website developer.

Once you have a general idea of what you want, you are ready to post on either Odesk or Elance. When you are listing your mobile website development projects, there are some things to keep in mind to make sure you find the best mobile website designer for your needs:

Post in the correct category – if you’re not sure the best category, look for other postings similar to what you’re looking for and see what category they used

Decide how you’ll pay – you will have to decide on an hourly or fixed rate for your project or allow people to bid to do your job – again, you’ll want to look at similar projects to see what’s typical – accepting a rock-bottom bid may seem like a good bet, but may result in low-quality work

Add details and specifications – you need to clearly communicate what you want and expect and spell out as many specifics as you can

Leave out extraneous info – you do not want to provide direct contact information for you – no email address, cell number, name or address of your business – you will be inundated with people looking to circumvent the process that’s there to protect you

Use an escrow option – this holds the payment money in a secure account until services are delivered that meet your expectation – this gives you peace of mind about not risking money to a total stranger

Communication – often with outsourcing, offshore candidates will be quick to respond with low bids, but you may want to stipulate that you want only a Native English speaker working on your project – even then, you may get “English” but it won’t be the American vernacular – feel free to

As soon as your project is posted, expect a flood of offers for your mobile website design project. Be sure to take your time evaluating, ask for references and look at their portfolio of work before making your selection.

How expensive is the mobile website designer. Is this something can be taught to someone with ease and then they can do it themselves. Mobile sites are good for business.

If you just want a basic mobile website the costs are relatively low. If your looking for a fully custom mobile website and if you want to integrate your mobile site into things like inventory, this increases the costs quite a bit.

There are a lot of mobile website designers overseas that offer their services at very competitive prices. This is why I wanted to recommend outsourcing your mobile website design.
